Dr. B. Masthan Rao (BMR) started BMR Group in 1992  with shrimp culture in a few acres of family land at his native village ( Iskapalli ) about 170 km away from Chennai (Madras). In 1994, BMR started hatchery operations by name BMR Marine Products, with the hatchery located at Iskapalli village with 60 million Tiger seed production capacity annually and later expanded it to 100 million seed production.

In 1995, Claswin Hatchery (BMR Industries Ltd.) was started near Muttukad, 15 kms from Chennai( Madras) on Chennai ( Madras) Pondichery Road ( East Coast Road)  with a production capacity of  150 million tiger seeds per annum.

The year 1999 was another turning point when the group had take over Hybrid EBI Hatchery at  Marakkanam near Pondichery, which has a production capacity of 100 million seeds  per year.

Royal Hatcheries at Visakhapatnam has been  taken on lease in 1999, which has the production capacity of 150 million tiger seed per annum.

In February 2000, the group has set up  BMR Scampi hatchery  at Iskapalli village with a production capacity of 30 million seeds per annum. As the scampi production was successful at BMR Hatchery, in  October 2000 the group expanded its Scampi seed production activities by constructing new units at Claswin and Hybrid Hatcheries.

The group has developed  marketing network in West Bengal ( Calcutta ), East Bengal ( Bangladesh ) for Exporting Tiger seed.

In East Bengal (Bangladesh) leading aqua culturist viz.,  Sonargon, Beach, Baly and  Seaking have started shrimp hatcheries with tie-up of Claswin Aqua Consultants (India) Pvt. Ltd.

Currently the group is having four  Tiger prawn hatcheries and  three  Scampi hatcheries. The group also owns a Shrimp Naupilli production unit at Visakhapatnam and a Spirulina production unit at Marakanam, Pondichery.

BMR group is the sole distributor of Salt creek and Micro feast's (one of the major player of Artimia harvesters at Utah salt lake, USA) Artimia and hatchery feeds for India and Bangladesh. The group also facilitate direct import of Salt creek & 

Microfeast brands in the name of individual parties.

The group has taken up distribution from  the Water base Ltd's ( The Thaper Group) feeds. Other than Water base's farm feed the group has also under taken the distribution of Gasper prawn feeds of Yuh-huei. Taiwan.

In the year 1997 the group has taken up distribution of The Waterbase Ltd's shrimp feeds, later on they have expanded shrimp feed  trading activities by taking up distribution of Gasper prawn feeds of Yuh-huei. Taiwan.

The group has further expanded its activities by taking up distribution  of aerators of AllJet Corporation, Taiwan.

The group has a strong technical consultancy division (Claswin Aqua Consultants (India) Pvt Ltd.) extending technical services for setting up  of shrimp hatchery and production of seeds.

BMR Group is Exporting Frozen Prawn and  Frozen Shrimp  under the Banner BMR Exports  and  brand of 4M.
